**CTE: Preparing Students for Future Careers**
Staff Report / Daytonalocal.org
**What is Career and Technical Education (CTE)?**
Career and Technical Education (CTE) is a program designed to meet the high-skill, high-wage demands of employers. Approximately 94% of high school students are involved in CTE programs, along with millions of students in postsecondary education.
CTE is offered across various educational platforms, including high schools, career centers, community colleges, technical colleges, and four-year universities. The curriculum integrates academics with practical training, making it both rigorous and relevant to real-world job demands.
CTE encompasses a variety of Career Clusters that help students gain the necessary skills for success in their chosen fields. These clusters include:
- Hospitality & Tourism
- Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics
- Marketing, Sales & Service
- Information Technology
- Business, Management & Administration
- Manufacturing
- Government & Public Administration
- Arts, A/V Technology & Communications
- Health Science
- Law, Public Safety & Security
- Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources
- Human Services
- Transportation, Distribution & Logistics
- Architecture & Construction
- Education & Training
- Finance
Through these pathways, CTE prepares students to be college- and career-ready by equipping them with core academic skills, employability skills, and specific job-related skills.
