**Trailblazing Women in Law Enforcement Celebrated by Alexandria Police**

In a tribute to pioneering women in law enforcement, the Alexandria Police Department in Louisiana has highlighted the achievements of several historic trailblazers. These women broke significant barriers in the field of policing, paving the way for future generations. Their stories showcase determination, courage, and commitment to public service.

- **Alice Stebbins Wells (1910):** Sworn in as the first female police officer in the United States with full arrest powers. Wells began her service in Los Angeles, California, marking a turning point for women in law enforcement.

- **Georgia Ann Robinson (1916):** Known as the first Black female police officer in the nation, Robinson served with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). In addition to her police duties, she was a passionate advocate for social justice causes.

- **Penny Harrington (1985):** Shattered stereotypes by becoming the first female police chief of a major U.S. city, leading the police department in Portland, Oregon. Her appointment underscored the growing presence of women in leadership roles within law enforcement.
