**City of Alexandria Honors Legacy of Arna Bontemps**

The City of Alexandria, Louisiana, is honoring the legacy of Arna Bontemps, one of America’s most prolific African American writers and a native of the city. Bontemps, a celebrated figure in literature, was a key leader of the Harlem Renaissance and used his craft to address issues of injustice and document the experiences of Black life in Louisiana and the South.

Bontemps' childhood home has been preserved as the Arna Bontemps African American Museum. The museum showcases his work and contributions as a novelist, poet, playwright, and historian, providing a space for visitors to learn about his remarkable story and his lasting impact on African American history and culture.
