Upcoming Screenings for Talented Arts Program Announced

Staff Report / Alexandrialocal.org

The Rapides Parish School Board is announcing the upcoming screenings for its Talented Arts Program, which provides educational services to students with exceptional artistic abilities. The program includes two primary disciplines: Visual Arts and Theater.

For Visual Arts, key areas of focus include aesthetic development, art history, analysis and criticism, creative expression, and an overview of art businesses and career opportunities. Students in this area are recognized for their ability to elaborate on others’ ideas, their unique selection of art media, and their imaginative concepts.

In the Theater program, students develop performance skills, learn about theater history, engage in analysis and criticism, and explore theater production and business. Notable characteristics of theater students include their storytelling abilities and capacity to create original plays.

The important dates for submissions include the following:

- Portfolios or music/theater videos must be submitted to the School-Based Learning Coordinator (SBLC) by October 14, 2024.

- The SBLC will submit these to Pupil Appraisal on October 15, 2024.

- Pupil Appraisal will then forward the materials to the Gifted and Talented (G/T) office by October 16, 2024.

Intake meetings will be coordinated by the Pupil Appraisal Social Worker via the SBLC process. Evaluations will take place from November 12 to November 15, 2024.
