Training for the moments that matter most: The Sarasota County Fire Department (SCFD) Special Operations Team is conducting high-angle rescue training in downtown Sarasota. This training prepares crews for high-risk, low-frequency emergencies, which require precision, coordination and advanced technical skills.

Becoming part of the SCFD Special Operations Team takes hundreds of hours of specialized training, and maintaining those skills requires constant practice. Opportunities like this allow personnel to train in real-world conditions, ensuring they are ready to respond when it matters most.

In February, SCFD personnel responded to an emergency on the 17th floor of a building under construction and, in tandem with the crane operator, were able to bring the patient to safety utilizing the crane on site.

In the weeks that followed, the SCFD Special Operations team and Juneau Construction Company conducted additional high-angle rescue training utilizing the crane equipment, should another emergency occur.

Please note that there will be no construction activity during these training opportunities; however, some equipment, including the crane, will be used as part of the training.
