A Tumalo family was able to escape safely from a house fire, thanks to their working smoke alarms. According to Bend Fire & Rescue in Bend, Oregon, the incident highlights the life-saving importance of regularly maintaining smoke alarms in homes.

Reports indicate that this month, fire crews responded to multiple overnight house fires where working smoke alarms alerted residents in time, allowing them to evacuate without injury. These incidents emphasize how crucial it is to have properly functioning smoke detectors in every household.

Smoke alarms have a typical lifespan of 10 years, but their batteries should be replaced annually to ensure they remain operational. This can prevent the familiar chirping sound signaling a low battery and, more importantly, can provide critical warning time in the event of a fire.
