**Buffalo Museum of Science Brings Telescopes Indoors for Winter Care**

Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Museum of Science has officially brought its roof-mounted telescopes indoors for the winter to protect them from the harsh elements of Buffalo's frigid season. According to a post by Holly Cohen, the museum’s Astronomy Program Coordinator, this seasonal practice ensures the telescopes remain in optimal condition for their next astronomy season.

The telescopes, including the Bistany telescope and the Lunt solar scope, are designed to withstand outdoor use. However, their bracket system is exposed to extreme weather conditions, including wind, rain, and snow—common in a Buffalo winter. To preserve their function and longevity, the museum stores the telescopes in protective cases during the colder months.

Staff received assistance from the Buffalo Astronomical Association to conduct routine maintenance and touch-ups on the equipment. This preparation ensures the telescopes are in top shape when they are reinstalled and ready to dazzle visitors in the spring.

This seasonal downtime preserves the quality of the telescopes and allows the museum to continue sharing the wonders of the universe with its guests once warmer weather returns.
