USD Celebrates Civic Engagement and Political History
Staff Report / sanlocal.org
As Election Day approaches, the University of San Diego (USD) reflects on its history of civic engagement and its tradition of hosting leaders from various political backgrounds. Notable visits to the campus include former Presidents Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, and Bill Clinton, who have all shared insights with the USD community.
The university also played a significant role in national politics by hosting the presidential debate between Bill Clinton and Bob Dole in Shiley Theatre in 1996. Additionally, on November 4, 1978, former President Gerald Ford met with former USD President Author “Art” E. Hughes and members of the Board of Trustees in Palm Springs.
The university encourages everyone to make their voices heard and to vote on November 5.
