Banned Books Week Celebrated at Utica University

Staff Report / Uticalocal.org

Last Wednesday, during Banned Books Week, the Frank E. Gannett Memorial Library at Utica University held its annual Banned Books Read-Out event.

This gathering allowed students, faculty, and staff to explore the library's collection of banned and challenged books. Attendees learned about censorship issues, engaged in conversations with librarians and experts, and participated in activities promoting the freedom to read.

A notable quote from Stephen Chbosky highlighted the significance of this event: “Banning books gives us silence when we need speech. It closes our ears when we need to listen. It makes us blind when we need sight.”
